Chef Masa Takayama's, Kappo Masa, seeks an experienced sommelier to join our team.
We are looking for someone who has a strong interest in wine and beverage in general, thrives on customer contact and has the ability to inspire and educate the staff. You are passionate and sincere about your role and always trying to make the guest’s experience memorable.
Position Requirements include the following:
Strong leadership skills and a polished floor presence.
Minimum 2 years NYC sommelier experience in fine dining restaurants.
Exhibit global wine knowledge with a strong focus on wines of the United States and classic regions of the Old World Burgundy, Bordeaux, Piedmont, Mosel, Rioja.
Assist in maintenance and stocking of wine cellar, wine list and inventory.
Provide daily updates to service staff regarding wine program changes in daily line up meetings.
A desire to grow and lead every night on the floor with the rest of the team.
Responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective service of our wine and beverage program.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and BinWise.
A positive, energetic and lead by example mentality.
A respectful and team oriented attitude toward all staff.
WSET or Court of Master Sommeliers certification is a plus.
A passion for Japanese cuisine and Sake required.
