Job Details

SECOND is looking for a talented Captain to join its team of seasoned professionals, as we embark on our busiest year ever! Featuring exposed brick walls, open-air terrace, and state of the art amenities, SECOND caters to the top creators and social clients for all types of events. With a bespoke menu created by celebrated chef, Laurent Tourondel, SECOND is one of the leading major event spaces in New York.

Service Expectations

  • Prepare coffee breaks, carts, and stations with appropriate food and beverage as stated in Event Order.
  • Prepare tables, actions stations, buffets, service carts, dessert table/carts and cordial carts.
  • Setup meal and reception buffets, taste panels, individual event functions, server head table and/or VIP tables without managerial assistance.
  • Serve food courses and alcoholic beverages to guests.
  • Answer questions on menu selections.
  • Communicate with the kitchen regarding menu questions, the length of wait, recook orders, and product availability.
  • Follow cycle time guidelines for all meals.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day.
  • Communicate additional meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen.
  • Inspect the cleanliness and presentation all china, glass, and silver prior to use.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of assigned tables including ensuring courses are cleared and tables are properly crumbed.
  • Communicate with guests and other employees and ensure staff is working together as a team to ensure optimum service.
  • Assist management in training, motivating, and coaching employees; and serve as a role model.

  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.

General

  • Support all co-workers and treat them with dignity and respect.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Assist with moving, lifting, carrying, and placing of objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
  • Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e. g., small print).
  • Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces and steps.
  • Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language.
  • Listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.

PREREQUISITES

Education:    

  • College graduate desired or equivalent. Must be age 21 or older.

Experience:  

  • A Minimum of 3 years working in the food service industry, ideally as a captain or service manager.
  • At least 2 years experience in a management position preferred.
  • Holds a DOH food handlers certificate.
  • Well versed with POS systems.
  • A strong service background.
  • Be able to lead by example and have a can-do attitude.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($20.00 - $25.00) plus tips
