The Tavern Group seeks an entrepreneurial spirited Chef for the newly renovated Otto’s Taproom in Brewerytown, Philadelphia.

The Chef will be responsible for the overall success of the back of house and kitchen focused on engaging locals with locally inspired and sourced, fun, and honest food.   This leader should have strong team building, communication and organization skills required to reopen this rebranded and completely rebuilt restaurant.  

The Chef will foster and develop an extraordinary team culture. They will be a dynamic self-starter responsible for overseeing the opening and execution of efficient kitchen and menu.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain a local inspired and desired food menu and adjust as needed based of seasonality and ingredient availability
  • Upbeat and positive attitude
  • Create an unforgettable food experience
  • Partners with GM and front of house to ensure a cohesive mission and camaraderie among all staff
  • Maintains profit and loss controls, inventory levels, and labor and product cost monitoring
  • Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
  • Must be able to adapt and make changes at a moment’s notice
  • Ensures staff follows health and safety regulations

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years proven experience as an Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef
  • Be an aspiring, influential, hands-on leader who has proven skills rallying a team to achieve its highest potential and then driving it to the next level
  • Proven record of effective conflict resolution and service recovery
  • Experience with restaurant openings, hiring, training, and maintaining ongoing kitchen excellence
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures, as well as standard food and beverage equipment maintenance
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (mobility, standing, walking, and lifting)
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • ServSafe Certified
  • Culinary, business, or culinary degree preferred, but not required

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Otto's Taproom and Grille is starting to come together! Physical plant is any way... we are building a 70 seat Taproom and Grille concept at the corner of 29th and Flora in the Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia.

We purchased the building 4 years ago and operated it as a casual corner bar, as it had been for many years. We closed just before the COVID pandemic shutdown for a full gut renovation and considered (for a year) to not move ahead given the economic climate.

About a year later we made the commitment to move forward with the renovation and build a full service neighborhood restaurant focusing on quality food and beverage in an area where there are few places that do so. We hope to build a strong committed team focused on authentic, local, and quality oriented food and beverage.

Otto's Taproom is named for Otto Charles Wolf a local well know architect, of his time, for designing and building beer making facilities. Linked below.
