Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our small wine bar, restaurant and retail shop team as our Head Bartender. Compline's award-winning wine program and innovative dishes attract wine industry friends, Napa locals, and tourists from all over the world. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with wines from across the globe and improve your own depth of wine knowledge in our fast-paced, downtown environment.

Responsibilities include:

Run Compline's evening wine bar service and maintain a hospitable and welcoming environment
Drive wine bar sales
Manage bar stocking, cleaning, and maintenance
Help with monthly wine cellar inventories
Develop monthly staff wine education focusing on by-the-glass wines and other beverages

The ideal candidate would possess:

A desire to cultivate genuine relationships with guests
Strong prioritization skills
A sense of professional urgency
A working knowledge of classic wines of the world
A desire to sell wine!

Compline's wine program has achieved a "Best of Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator and a three-star Jury Award from World of Fine Wine Awards. We have been named one of the "Top 100" wine restaurants in America by Wine Enthusiast.

We have a globe-spanning wine list of over 350 selections plus an additional 200 bottles in our retail shop, an evolving seasonal menu from Chef Jammir Gray, and plenty of opportunities to learn more about wine and food. Wine knowledge is a plus, but a genuine love for hospitality as well as a strong desire for professional growth is key.

This full-time position includes full medical benefits after three months, wine and dining discounts, and plenty of opportunities to learn and hone the sommelier craft.
