The Box House Hotel is home to our top notch Rooftop Event Venue, Box House Events. We have a 10,000 Square foot events space that caters to world class weddings, corporate, and social events. We are in search of talented line cooks to help continue to build and execute our events. Who you are:
Our Sous Chefs are integral to the Box House Hotel & Box House Event’s culinary team. As a Sous Chef, you have a strong passion for food and an eagerness to learn more about global cuisine. Box House Hotel’s eclectic menu features refined food with seasonal ingredients which comes with the opportunity to understand and build on your skills, and grow as a leader in the kitchen.
What you’ll do:
• Ensure high performance and maintain overall excellence and hospitality throughout each day’s specific service periods.
• Ensure consistent execution of food and timely flow of service by directing the team and effectively expediting service.
• Educate dining room service staff on all aspects of food menu & culinary procedures through tastings and staff presentation
• Maintain positive working relationship with dining room leaders and line staff at all times
• Ensure that all recipes, product, food preparations and food execution meet restaurant's specifications and commitment to culinary excellence. To the highest degree possible, ensure that kitchen & physical plant is kept clean, safe and up to all “A” level health code standards.
• Ensure all team members are appropriately trained to execute station properly, partnering with the Sous Chef team to make sure that all new hires are adequately trained before beginning their new role
What we need from you:
• 2+ years of experience in culinary leadership and fine dining
• Certification in Hospitality-related field, or equivalent (preferred)
• Certified Food Handler by the NYC Health Department and or be able to obtain this within 90 days of start date.
• Demonstrated experience in collaborating and communicating across teams
• Excellent food and beverage knowledge
• English fluency and additional languages preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge and a commitment of proper food handling and cooking.
• Adhere and maintain all NYC DOH & company sanitation standards
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time.
