Sommelier needed for TriBeCa's highly regarded, fine dining Korean restaurant, Jungsik.
The Sommelier is the ambassador of the wine program and ensures that each guest receives the best service and guidance regarding their wine selection.
This role will also be responsible for motivating and mentoring staff’s wine knowledge, and commit themselves to fostering an environment of excellence in food, wine and service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain an understanding of the proper steps of service required of all FOH service positions
• Must be able to operate effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly, and ensure smooth service operations and quality service
• Have a base knowledge and understanding of classic cookery, and an expert knowledge of wine, beer, and cocktails
• Must be pleasant, conscientious, and professional with excellent knowledge of food and alcoholic beverage selections, and service standards.
• Show a strong menu knowledge: you should be able to recognize every dish and to answer to basic guest questions as well as presenting the dishes to the guests.
• Have a general knowledge and understanding of Department of Health (DOH) food safety standards
• Works in conjunction with the Executive Chef and Management to create food and wine pairings.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum 2 years’ hospitality and wine program management experience required.
• Previous fine dining hospitality experience preferred in establishment of similar caliber.
• Must be able to speak, read, write in clear English, Korean is a plus.
• Knowledge of computer accounting programs, math skills as well as budgetary analysis.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with managing inventory and cost control is preferred
• Must be able to use relevant computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; restaurant specific software including point-of-sale registers and business metric applications)
