Founded by CEO Danny Meyer with the opening of Union Square Cafe in 1985, Union Square Hospitality Group has created some of New York’s most beloved restaurants, cafes, and bars such as Gramercy Tavern, Maialino, The Modern, Marta and Porchlight to name a few!

The Team Member BOH, in collaboration with the Chef and GM, will work closely with the BOH management team to drive service each day and inspire team members to work together and hold one another accountable to the standards set. The Team Member BOH will maintain compliance with DOH standards, cleanliness, efficiency and overall excellence. This role could also include administrative work, opening or closing duties, or stepping in to needed roles in the restaurant as business demands. The Team Member BOH is able perform multiple responsibilities, tasks and abilities related to the back of house with strong skills as a line cook.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all aspects of kitchen operations, specifically in relation to the preparation, cooking, portioning of food and basic wrapping
  • Maintains and properly uses all kitchen equipment including but not exclusive to fryers, blenders, food processors, mixers and rotisserie
  • Consistently ensures that prep duties are excellently prepped, seasoned and cooked to the standards taught by Daily Provisions culinary leaders by the designated time of completion
  • Follows standard operating procedures of all recipes, techniques, and builds sheets of assigned dishes as taught by culinary leaders
  • Responsible for correct product storage of all mise en place, including labeling and dating procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining properly sharpened knives and tools and exhibits at least average knife skills in speed and accuracy to maintain a professional line cook's workload
  • Maintains a clear dish station including but not limited to chemicals, janitorial supplies, and health department standards.
  • Assists with deep cleaning schedule
  • Supports the team (Hospitality and Kitchen) whenever needed (e.g, call-outs, catering, etc.)
  • Has intimate knowledge of Department of Health standards and uses them as a guide to keep kitchen spaces tidy, and to hold the team accountable

  • 2+ years of experience in kitchens and/or service in a restaurant
  • NYCDOH Food Handlers License
  • Kitchen Operations knowledge (flow of goods, cleaning supply usage, equipment usage, time management)
  • Problem-solving and delegation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ideally in two or more languages
  • Bachelors or Culinary Degree preferred
  • Able to accommodate a flexible schedule
  • able to stand for long hours
  • Able to lift 50 pounds and multitask effectively

  • 401(k) Plan: USHG offers a voluntary retirement investment plan that allows you to defer a portion of your income and use pre-tax dollars to save for your retirement. All employees who are 21 years of age or older may elect to participate after 12 months of continuous employment.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts: All employees who have completed 12 months of continuous, full-time employment may elect to set up Flexible Spending Accounts in January of each year. Flexible Spending Accounts allow employees to defer pre-tax income to pay for certain eligible expenses including health care costs not covered by health insurance, transportation to work, and qualified child care expenses. Flexible Spending allows you to increase the income you take home by reducing the amount of taxes you pay for qualified expenses.
  • Direct Deposit: We offer direct deposit of paychecks to your financial institution at no cost to you. You may sign up for direct deposit at any time.
  • Corporate Discount Programs: As a USHG employee, you can get a discounted rate at area gyms and massage services. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to stay healthy and strong!
