Café Manager, Heritage Bicycles General Store

Job Description 

The Café Manager is the team member whose primary duty is to manage the day to day operation of the Heritage Bicycles General Store located in Lakeview. The Café Manager is a detail-oriented role who will work closely with the baristas and cashiers at the café to execute an efficient, smooth, and positive operation daily while providing an exceptional experience to our customers.  This person will lead the day to day operation and work towards achieving our financial goals, both revenue and cost of goods sold and labor costs.  This role is a blend of an operational role and an administrative role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operation of the cafe including but not limited to training café team members, ensuring a positive customer experience, driving a smooth service each shift, working with the team to track that procedures are followed throughout the shift
  • Assist with the development of the cafe menus including but not limited to specialty drinks as well as packaged products; produce a menu that targets the budgeted food cost; work with vendors to source all items for menu items; develop training guides for all menu items and train teams accordingly
  • With the support of the Heritage Founder, maintain vendor relationships including procurement of inventory, selecting new vendors, and conducting vendor meetings
  • Manage café inventory, place orders working with par levels, and monitor waste at each location
  • Contribute to marketing efforts including generating content, participating in customer facing videos or training sessions, providing content such as drink descriptions, and encouraging staff to do the same
  • Work with accounting team and the Director of Hospitality to explain any variances to budgeted beverage cost; monitor menu performance closely to ensure strongest revenue production possible
  • Manage baristas and café staff during each shift; Lead recruiting efforts, training, and monitor the performance of cafe employees closely with the support of senior leadership
  • Manage labor cost closely with the help of senior leadership and the accounting team
  • Work closely with both the Director of Hospitality as well as the Heritage Coffee Café/Bar teams to ensure strong financial performance
  • Complete assigned weekly and monthly reporting as well as any other information requested by senior leadership

Essential Job Functions:

  • Two or more (2+) years’ experience in Café or Food & Beverage Management, bars or restaurant, or in a related industry (Hotels, Restaurants, Bars, Coffee Shops); One or more (1+) years’ experience as a manager or leadership role; Experience with specialty coffee programs preferred
  • Demonstrate an ability to support and contribute to community team
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
  • Operate telephone, personal computer/keyboard, Microsoft Office including Word and MS Outlook, community software
  • Must possess a positive attitude and the ability to smile under all circumstances
  • Participate in training in order to comply with new or existing laws
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends where business demands
  • Neat, clean, professional at all times throughout the workday and/or whenever present at the community
  • Comply with expectations as demonstrated in the employee handbook
  • Demonstrate ability to diffuse and respond to customer concerns to avoid escalation of the problem.
  • Successfully pass drug test.
