Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently (in word, action, attitude, and mindset), demonstrate an ability to take feedback, criticism, and direction in all areas of their work, particularly in staff development, operations, and administration.
  • Consistently maintain a positive, cheerful, respectful, and professional attitude toward coworkers and guests and keeps a neat, clean and organized work environment.
  • Ensure proper preparation and staffing for all shifts.
  • Set an example in food handling and sanitation, keeps the staff compliant with requirements from Chicago’s Health Department.
  • Communicate directly with the General Manager, Executive Chef, Partners, and all other managers and staff to ensure operational needs are met, including repairs & maintenance, staffing needs, etc.
  • Run the floor from the door: the primary responsibility will be to “run the floor from the door” and to supervise all FOH departments to keep the operation running smoothly while managing the host stand.
  • Eagerly assist all departments in fulfilling their responsibilities when needed (seating guests, bussing tables, running food, polishing glasses, filling ice, etc.), particularly when due to unexpected absences or surges in business volumes.
  • Proactively maneuver flow to take into consideration team members’ strengths and weaknesses, last year’s business levels, special events, and budgeted labor.
  • Execute opening and/or closing manager responsibilities, including preparing and reconciling banks, conducting pre-shifts, and ensuring staff have executed their opening/closing checklists.
  • Participate in management meetings.
  • Communicate specials, counts, dietary/allergenic concerns, pricing and procedure to FOH staff members.
  • Resolve complaints from guests in a polite, friendly manner.
  • Embrace company background, core values and hospitality and business philosophies.
  • Ensure the FOH is properly staffed and communicates any staffing issues to senior management.
  • Train and develop new and existing employees to maintain prompt and engaging service. 
  • Maintain composure under pressure.
  • Effectively communicate with the management team all problems or unusual matters of significance.
  • You must be competent at managing labor cost.
  • You must be prepared to host, serve, open, close, and everything in between.
  • You must be a team player.
  • You must be coachable.
  • No egos! This isn't about you :)

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • 3+ years management experience.
  • 6+ years restaurant business experience.
  • Current/valid ServSafe Certification required.
  • Current/valid Bassett Certification required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to be flexible with job demands and open minded when being asked to complete tasks.
  • Must be able to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the restaurant
  • Must be able to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant generally weighing 0-50 pounds
  • Must be able to work varied hours/days as business dictates
  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours/day 
  • Must be able to work 55 hours/week.
  • Must work weekends and nights (we are closed Mondays and Tuesdays).


  • *Depending on candidate’s experience and qualifications:
    • Salary: 55,000 annual
    • Benefits: up to 30% of BCBS benefits package
    • PTO: 5 business days per year, accruing 2.5 per year up to 10 business days.
