Job Summary:

As a team member of the Gjelina Group, every role is key in our mission to consistently create thoughtfully nuanced experiences for the guests in each of our locations. The Server works in collaboration with the Busser and floor staff to provide an exceptional, efficient dining experience for guests, in accordance with all CDC and LA County guidelines (subject to change). This position serves as the primary point of contact for diners, leading the flow of their dining experience, answering menu questions, troubleshooting any issues and communicating with the kitchen and floor staff to optimize the flow of service.

The Gjelina Management Team is committed to providing you job specific training and weekly evaluations with the goal of having you reach full comfort level and proficiency in your role within 6 weeks. We encourage questions and communication to ensure the best training result possible.

  • Make sure you have a face mask to be worn upon entering the building

  • Check in with Manager on duty prior to clock-in for symptom check

  • Learn and execute all safety requirements related to Covid in accordance with all CDC and LA County guidelines (subject to change)

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Report for duty on time, entering through the 501 entrance on Milwood.

  • Once cleared for work use the time clock to check in and out. Manage your time including taking rest and meal breaks in compliance with California Labor Law. Keep Manager informed when leaving the floor.

  • Maintain high standards of appearance and hygiene that include clean clothes, nails and hair and no heavy perfumes/colognes.

  • Protect establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety and alcohol control policies.

  • Know our regulars and encourage new guests to become regulars by establishing a rapport and getting to know the guests’ likes and dislikes.

  • Smile and maintain eye contact with our guests, and always provide prompt, attentive service.

  • Know table and seat numbers; standard and special table arrangements.

    • Ensure stations are stocked with glass and silverware for and during service and that tables are laid in accordance with restaurant standard. Ensure the standard par for of silverware roll ups are made for each shift.
    • Attend the pre-shift meeting.
    • Take responsibility for your station which includes: 
      • Taking orders by curating the guests experience with recommendations and beer/wine pairings. 
      • Place order, with appropriate coursing, check-in, especially once food has dropped at the table to assure the guests’ satisfaction.
      • Anticipate additional wine service, dessert menus/coffee and check.
    • Consistently and genuinely engage with guests in a timely manner and work to anticipate their needs based on verbal and nonverbal cues.
    • Run food and drinks and bus tables in your section throughout service.
    • Maintenance of beverage levels throughout the meal.
    • Respond to any menu/drinks queries with knowledgeable answers, manage any service issues through your floor manager and communicate any unresolved issues to them at the end of the shift. 
    • All guest allergies are to be brought to Manager’s attention immediately and properly noted on all tickets.
    • Carry out end of service procedures quickly and efficiently, check in with the manager for end of shift tips processing and check out.
    • Continuously participate in all training and/or activities to further knowledge, understanding and mastery of products, services.

    • Previous restaurant experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

    • Ability to identify all dishes on the menu and know their ingredients and potential allergens. 
    • Knowledge of all beverage items to include undertaking in-house training in wine.
    • Ability to use all relevant items of equipment
    • Understanding, knowledge, and ability to comply with safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.
    • Ability to use the restaurant point of sale system and troubleshoot problems.
    • Ability to prioritize work activities, provide accurate information and assistance to management or colleagues’ requests in a timely and courteous manner.
    • Ability to keep calm when faced with any unusual situations.
    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
