Job Summary:  The host role is a vital member of the service team as the first point of contact with every visitor to the restaurant. The host exudes warmth and has strong knowledge of the restaurant and the neighborhood. They work with and support the Maitre D’ in plotting, planning, and updating the dining room to efficiently coordinate the seating of the dining room throughout each service.


Core Tasks and Key Responsibilities

Cultivate a thriving culture of authentic Enlightened Hospitality for all stakeholders that support our business objectives and growth

· Create a welcoming and hospitable environment for guests.

· Exhibit professionalism and care when speaking to guests and communicating information.

· Properly answer guest inquiries with regards to restaurant hours of operation and basic operational information, menus, and reservations.

· Demonstrates ability to recognize certain guests depending on position level.

· Multi-task and demonstrate athleticism when “finding the yes” for all guests.

· Ensure constant communication with staff members, management and the kitchen during service.


Ensures that the restaurant and dining room team exudes Operational Excellence

· Act as a liaison between the guests, Maître d’, management, kitchen and service staff and communicate accordingly.

· Complete all assigned sidework per shift.

· Regularly complete status updates on behalf of the Maître d’.

· Must be able to multi-task and work with efficiency and a sense of urgency.

· Quote accurate wait times to guests during service.

· Assist the Maître d’ in seating guests, checking coats, distributing soignee tickets and transferring open bar tickets.

· Communicate effectively and efficiently between visitors to the restaurant and the management team.

· Have a working knowledge of basic Resy functions required for use during service. This includes, but is not limited to; status changes, use of the waitlist function, guest searches and reservations.

· Demonstrate ability to make reservations following the guidelines outlined in the Guest Relations manual.

· Working knowledge of phone system etiquette and operations.

Other Qualifications

Relevant Knowledge, Skills, & Ability:

· 0 -1 years of experience in restaurants or hospitality or strong interest in food and hospitality

· Good Communicator – ability to understand, speak & follow written and verbal instruction in English

· Attention to detail & well organized

· Team-oriented

· Initiative & follow through

· Prioritization & multi-tasking

· Interest in food and hospitality



· High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Work Environment:

· Ability to regularly reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel or crawl

· Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 15 lbs; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs

· Ability to stand or walk for up to 12 hours at a time

· Ability to balance & carry multiple plates, glass racks and or/glasses

  • 401(k) Plan: USHG offers a voluntary retirement investment plan that allows you to defer a portion of your income and use pre-tax dollars to save for your retirement. All employees who are 21 years of age or older may elect to participate after 12 months of continuous employment.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts: All employees who have completed 12 months of continuous, full-time employment may elect to set up Flexible Spending Accounts in January of each year. Flexible Spending Accounts allow employees to defer pre-tax income to pay for certain eligible expenses including health care costs not covered by health insurance, transportation to work, and qualified child care expenses. Flexible Spending allows you to increase the income you take home by reducing the amount of taxes you pay for qualified expenses.
  • Direct Deposit: We offer direct deposit of paychecks to your financial institution at no cost to you. You may sign up for direct deposit at any time.
  • Corporate Discount Programs: As a USHG employee, you can get a discounted rate at area gyms and massage services. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to stay healthy and strong!
