Quality Bistro, a bustling, steak-centric brasserie in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Sous Chef to join our team.

Position Summary:

The Sous Chef has an in-depth familiarity with the kitchen’s operations and is able to fill in for the Chef when needed and assist in resolving any problems that may arise on the job. This individual must possess the ability to quickly and authoritatively delegate job tasks to a large staff. They must also be able to draw upon their considerable experience as a cook who has worked in many different roles and settings in order to effectively coach and mentor cooks, and at times, fill in for them.

Position Requirements:
• Available to work various shifts, including scheduled and on-call, nights, weekends and holidays.
• 100% - Walks and stands during entire service
• Must be able to continuously reach, bend, lift, carry and stoop.
• Must be able to move, carry and lift 50 pounds with frequency throughout shift.
• Must have excellent knife skills, ability to cook in all stations.

Knowledge and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree, culinary degree, and/or 2 years work experience in a kitchen are required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - shows a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate employees through effective communication.
• Maintain advanced culinary knowledge and skills and the ability to stay on top of culinary trends.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills and be able to multi-task.
• Must be a team player.
• Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
• Maintain exceptional workplace safety procedures and sanitation skills according to Department of Health standards for hygiene and safe food handling.
• Maintain computer proficiency including ability to use Microsoft Office programs, as well as industry specific software including POS, Accounting, and HRIS systems.
• Must be certified in food protection by the state or applicable authority.
• Knowledge of sanitation protocols issued by Center for Disease Control.
