CAMEO AT THE ROOST SEEKS BARISTAS
Cameo will serve as a neighborhood gathering space and specialty coffee shop offering the finest coffee and tea. Locally owned and operated, Cameo was designed by the community for the community, and prioritizes social responsibility and diversity at every turn. Located within The Roost, a carefully curated, multi-concept, food and beverage destination coming soon to Southeast DC.
Cameo, slated to open in Summer 2020, seeks baristas to join our team. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about serving others and eager to learn. Previous experience in food or hospitality is a plus, but not a requirement. Instead, we are searching for unrelenting positivity, attention to detail, and a constant drive to improve.
We will execute our coffee and tea programs at the highest level. All employees will take part in Service Training and Coffee School to learn the fundamentals of extraction, brewing, processing, history and trade.
The ideal candidate:
- Enjoys drinking a wide variety of coffee and tea
- Feels energized by making someone’s day
- Always arrives early, and can manage time and tasks
- Thrives while working with a team towards a shared goal
- Communicates clearly and kindly, and diligently listens and observes
- Is excited to weigh every espresso shot and taste constantly throughout the day
- Notices the scattered crumbs or loose napkin on a countertop, and cleans it up without hesitation
- Takes constructive feedback as an opportunity to grow
- Will execute cleaning tasks with as much eagerness as brewing a pour over
This position will be part-time (~24 hours/week) with a competitive hourly wage. We are committed to creating a safe space for employees to work during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We will require mask and glove usage by all employees, and implement online and distanced in-person ordering.

The Roost is an ambitious 12,500-square-foot food hall and neighborhood gathering place located at Blackbird, a newly developed 167 unit residential building nestled on Pennsylvania Ave SE on Capitol Hill. Managed by local dining and drinking connoisseurs Neighborhood Restaurant Group, The Roost brings together some of the District’s best chefs and a lively & diverse collection of the area’s most exciting food, beer, wine and spirits purveyors to offer everything from coffee by local roasters, to that perfect burger and craft beer for any night of the week--all while sourcing from our community partners. We’re a food hall created by the DC community for the DC community.
The Roost is located in the historic and architecturally diverse neighborhood of Capitol Hill, just east of notable landmarks like Barracks Row and Eastern Market, and steps from the Potomac Avenue metro station. The Roost has been thoughtfully designed and created with the needs and desires of our neighbors in mind, and will offer family-friendly gathering spaces, indoors and out, with a multitude of dining options for all.
