This Summer, NRG will launch The Roost, a carefully curated, multi-concept, food and beverage destination in Southeast DC.  Years in the making, we are looking for a talented Head of Operations to lead the complex management of this dynamic business.

The Roost is an ambitious 12,500-square-foot food hall and neighborhood gathering place located at Blackbird, a newly developed 167 unit residential building nestled on Pennsylvania Ave SE on Capitol Hill. Managed by local dining and drinking connoisseurs Neighborhood Restaurant Group, The Roost brings together some of the District’s best chefs and a lively & diverse collection of the area’s most exciting food, beer, wine and spirits purveyors to offer everything from coffee by local roasters, to that perfect burger and craft beer for any night of the week--all while sourcing from our community partners. We’re a food hall created by the DC community, for the DC community.

The Roost is located in the historic and architecturally diverse neighborhood of Capitol Hill, just east of notable landmarks like Barracks Row and Eastern Market, and steps from the Potomac Avenue metro station. The Roost has been thoughtfully designed and created with the needs and desires of our neighbors in mind, and will offer family-friendly gathering spaces, indoors and out, with a multitude of dining options for all.

This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Competitive candidates will have extensive experience and proven success in leadership roles at establishments with compelling food and beverage programs.  They will be expert in managing costs, hiring and coaching employees, and providing excellent service, but we need more than just experience.  We are seeking a hospitality expert who embodies the ownership mentality and exudes an infectious sense of hospitality.  Our ideal candidate is curious, driven, and inspired on a daily basis by the fast-paced business we work in and the creative people we’re lucky to call colleagues.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer fantastic benefits including:

  • medical, dental, and vision insurance,
  • paid vacation,
  • paid parental leave,
  • dining credit for enjoyment at all of NRG’s restaurants,
  • ongoing enrichment opportunities to keep learning, and

The opening of Evening Star Cafe in 1997 launched the creation of Neighborhood Restaurant Group, one of the DC Area’s most creative and acclaimed restaurant groups. As its name suggests, NRG is a group of unique companies and concepts.  We think of ourselves as a collective of committed restaurant professionals who share common goals: to open and operate independent, exceptional, distinctive, and conscientious restaurants and bars with chef-driven menus and ambitious beverage programs; to create unique gathering places that reflect the communities in which they reside; and to surpass the expectations of our guests.

Neighborhood Restaurant Group is a collaborative of 19 independent brands and businesses dedicated to enhancing the communities in which we live and work. The company includes: Birch & Barley, Bluejacket Brewery, B-Side, Buzz Bakeshop, ChurchKey, Columbia Firehouse, Evening Star Cafe, Hazel, Iron Gate, Owen’s Ordinary, Planet Wine Shop, Red Apron, Rustico, The Partisan, and The Sovereign.  Check out all our concepts at

We’re committed to offering exceptional experiences in our restaurants, but we’re equally committed to giving back to the community.  In 2011 we founded Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture, a non-profit organization with a mission to improve the food system in our region.  Simply by working at Neighborhood Restaurant Group, you provide support to this fantastic organization’s programs, and we offer opportunities throughout the year to support Arcadia more actively through fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, field trips, and collaboration.  Learn more at
