Given the current COVID-19 threat, the Schulson Collective has suspended operations until further notice. During this time we will still be conducting phone and video interviews with qualified candidates in order to fill positions of need for when we are able to serve our guests again. We hope to resume operations as quickly as we safely can.

Don't let the cold weather fool you, Spring and Summer are right around the corner and Independence Beer Garden is getting ready for another exciting season! We are now recruiting for all roles including Bartender, Barback, Server, Food Runner, Utility, Line Cook, Prep Cook and Dishwasher. Previous experience in high volume environments is absolutely required. 

We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef who has worked in fast paced and high volume environments. Our ideal candidate is looking for a challenging new role in a growth-oriented company, and absolute rock-stars will have the opportunity to continue employment within the Schulson Collective after IBG's season ends. 

Reports to: Executive Chef/Executive Sous Chef


The Sous Chef is responsible for planning and directing food preparation in the kitchen, under the direction of the Executive Chef and/or Executive Sous Chef. 

Essential Functions

  1. Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with human resources as appropriate.
  2. Responsible for food costs and labor costs in assigned restaurant.
  3. Monitor and ensure that standard kitchen operating procedures are met.
  4. Work with Executive Chef on developing new menu items, tastings and staying on top of trend
  5. Oversee the line during service while monitoring cooks’ progress and flow of service
  6. Support and manage prep for service; ensure all prep items and recipes are made to standard
  7. Supervises hourly back of house staff and fills a role on the line or expo as needed.
  8. Schedules staff per business needs, files reports and monitors time & attendance as needed
  9. Manage inventory and costs with the Executive Chef
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally push and/or pull up to 50 pounds. The employee will spend over 4 hours daily standing or walking.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Degree from Culinary Arts school is preferred; may substitute additional experience for education.
  2. 3+ years of Kitchen Management.
  3. Prior experience in menu creation, recipe writing and coaching/training.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills
  5. Must be able to work flexible hours and days. Must exhibit top-notch teamwork.
  6. Exceptional communication and supervisory skills
