Birch & Barley and ChurchKey is Seeking a General Manager!
In 2009, Birch & Barley and ChurchKey opened its doors in the heart of Logan Circle and became the ultimate destination for discerning craft beer drinkers, diners seeking a thoughtful menu with dishes built on sourcing and technique, and the warmest hospitality. Ten strong years later, and as passionate and ambitious as ever, we are looking for a seasoned General Manager to lead our team into the next chapter. If you have a passion for craft beer and a commitment to delivering the highest level of hospitality, we want to meet you!
About Birch & Barley and ChurchKey
A pioneer in pairing refined cooking and craft beer service, Birch & Barley and ChurchKey maintains an unwavering attention to detail and service. Beer Director and Partner Greg Engert designed and leads the beer program which showcases the very best of the local scene alongside offerings from the most exciting domestic and international producers. Thousands of beers rotate annually through a state-of-the-art, 50 tap draft system, along with five cask ales and 500+ bottle offerings. Engert's own unique categorization system of beer flavor profiles guides service from steps of service to pairing beer to menu offerings. The beer program organizes a wide array of on- and off-site events, such as tap takeovers, brewery dinners, beer classes, and larger, community-focused festivals including Snallygaster.
The culinary team at Birch & Barley and ChurchKey, led by Executive Chef Jared Silver brings equal ambition and talent to the dining experience. Chef Silver’s menu draws on his personal interest in, and experience cooking with, the flavors and techniques of the eastern Mediterranean. Sourcing is guided by seasonality and local producers whenever possible. A strong partnership between the kitchen and front of house teams means frequent collaboration and inspiration between the culinary and beverage programs, and has fostered a fun, supportive, positive culture.
Competitive candidates will have extensive experience and proven success in leadership roles at establishments with compelling beverage programs. They will be expert in managing costs, hiring and coaching employees, and providing excellent service, but we need more than just experience. We are seeking a hospitality expert who embodies the ownership mentality and exudes an infectious sense of hospitality. Our ideal candidate is curious, driven, and inspired on a daily basis by the fast-paced business we work in and the creative people we’re lucky to call colleagues.
In addition to a competitive salary, we offer fantastic benefits including:
- medical, dental, and vision insurance,
- paid vacation,
- paid parental leave,
- dining credit for enjoyment at all of NRG’s restaurants,
- ongoing enrichment opportunities to keep learning, and
- closure on most major holidays.
