SUMMARY

Coordinates activities of the dining room to ensure absolute guest satisfaction. Answers phones, greets and seats guests, provides menus, and operates Reservation System.  

MAJOR JOB DUTIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answers phones in a professional and courteous manner. Confirms Open Table reservations for the following shift
  • Ensures women’s restroom is clean and fully stocked. Ensures host stand and surrounding work area is organized and presentable. Maintains host stand supplies such as toothpicks, business cards, etc. Completes cleaning duties as needed (i.e. cleaning windows, dusting, etc.)
  • Wipes down libation menu covers utilizing leather wipes
  • Writes specials on chalkboards in a manner that is attractive and easily readable
  • Counts all menus and provides counts to MOD
  • Warmly and graciously greets all guests upon arrival. Body language exudes genuine hospitality; utilizes eye contact, good posture, a confident tone and a genuine smile. Opens the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant.
  • Utilizes Reservation System (Open Table) to check guests in, identify special requests/notes, and manage the shift’s reservations.
  • Seats guests using appropriate rotation system as to maintain fair distribution of covers and to avoid overwhelming servers. When immediate seating is limited, communicates realistic wait-times to guests. Maintains a professional, courteous attitude if confronted with hostile, impatient or irate guests.
  • Upon seating, offers guests a menu and wishes them an enjoyable meal. Inspects table for proper presentation and completeness.
  • Communicates necessary guest notes to server, manager and kitchen via printed chit sheets.
  • Observes tables and keeps track of table status (i.e. guests are eating entrees, guests have paid, etc.)
  • Thanks guests as they leave the restaurant and invites them to return. Communicates any guest feedback to management.
  • Provides directions, valet information, restaurant history, and other information to guests when requested.
  • Coordinates to-go orders
  • Creates and maintains lasting relationships with neighboring Concierges.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one-year host or related experience desired.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondences.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to fluently speak, write, and read the English language.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate
  • Availability: Must be available to work long hours, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Six-day work weeks may be occasionally required.
