Captains are the primary point of contact for the guest’s dining experience at
Gotham. He or she must work to create an immediate rapport with the guest so they
know they are in excellent hands. Since each table is looking for a different
experience, it is the job of the captain to assess what type of experience the guest is
The captain will direct the timing and flow of a table, balancing the need to turn a
table and our desire to deliver an exceptional experience. In conjunction with the
maitre d’, the captain will direct his or her team to accommodate special requests and
food issues such as allergies, dislikes, substitutions, tasting menus. The Captain is
responsible for directing the support staff.
A captain at Gotham is a leadership position, which demands dedication, focus, and
the ability to anticipate guests’ needs. They are expected to know the menu and any
additions to the menu and be able to explain each dish to the table. Captains must
communicate with all service team members, the kitchen and management. As
leaders, captains are expected to participate in any aspects of service that may be
necessary including serving food, clearing tables, and re-setting tables.
