Portale Restaurant is an upscale-casual Italian restaurant that recently opened in Chelsea by Alfred Portale the James Beard award-winning chef and best-selling cookbook author. We are searching for talented, hardworking, team and hospitality-oriented individuals who can help us create a warm and welcoming enviroment that serves thoughtful and delicous food and beverage offerings. We want serious people who know how to have fun.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Maitre D' to join our team and split duties with our current Maitre D' as we gear up for lunch and brunch service. This will be a full time position with both dinner and lunch exposure.. This is an opportunity to create a new restaurant from the ground up, which will require a tremendous work ethic, dedication to achieve excellence, and a calm and professional leadership style to successfully inspire our team and connect with our guests and community.
Can work the door and floor with equal comfort. Our Maitre D' position is for an applicant who is interested in being a full member of our FOH team and is prepared to wear multiple hats that will require both interest and ability beyond the door.
Understand the ins and outs of the reservation platform systems: Opentable and Sevenrooms
Have great presence at the door and on the floor with the ability to build and push an agressive reservation book
Can lead a team of hosts and reservationists to act as proper ambassadors for our restaurant where they exude the hospitaly approach, kindness and high energy required to set an ideal tone during initial guest contact
Possess excellent leadership qualities, a polished floor presence, professional demeanor and appearance.
Act as an ambassador for the restaurant and engage our guests while taking note of their likes and dislikes.
Adhere to the hours of work/shift system. Be punctual and arrive to the restaurant at the appropriate time.
Perform duties in the restaurant in compliance with statutory health & safety, and hygiene requirements
Perform all duties relating to the opening and closing of the restaurant, allowing efficient and proactive service
Ensure that the highest standards of cleanliness are achieved and that furnishings and equipment are maintained, providing a safe, clean and pleasant environment
Have full and complete knowledge of the food served at Portale Restaurant in order to take ownership of the highest possible display of knowledge in the restaurant.
Have total control of service, knowing the allocation of staff on duty while ensuring that the stations are clean at all times
Use communication skills constantly both with guests and teammates. .
Handle all guest complaints and follow through until full guest satisfaction is achieved.
Be attentive, supportive and consistently positive while at work
Carry out any reasonable requests as directed by your Director of Operations in order to achieve the highest possible standards.
Establish strong working relationship with all other departments
Help create a fun and vibrant restaurant space that your teammates and guests will enjoy!
Minimum 1 year of NYC Management Experience in high volume, fine dining restaurants
