Since 2005 Penn Asian Senior Services’ work has been focused on improving lives of the frail Asian American immigrants in Pennsylvania, promoting health and wellness, and ending the cycle of social isolation due to language barriers. The Lead Chef assists the Head Chef in the overall execution and success of the kitchen operations while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment for the staff. The Lead Chef will prepare meals in accordance with company guidelines to ensure that Penn Asian Senior Services’ Vision, Goals and Objectives are met in serving the needs of the center’s diverse senior population.


  • Cook a variety of authentic traditional Korean cuisine
  • Ensure quality product is prepared and served in a timely manner
  • Stores food in designated areas following all company, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures. Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures as evidenced through local health department
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils. Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
  • Monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies. Tracks product production, consumption and waste. Informs Head Chef when supplies or product are low
  • Assists in training, leading and developing Penn Asian Evergreen team to achieve excellence in guest experience and hospitality
  • Assists in the decisions regarding utilization of leftover food products staying within Company guidelines for such products
  • Participates and attends departmental meetings
  • Assists in the planning and creation of menus
  • Facility and equipment support and supervision
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities


  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a chef in traditional Korean cuisine.
  • High volume foodservice operations experience – preferred.
  • Experience with quantity meal planning and preparation.
  • Practical knowledge of diverse cooking techniques and proficiency in preparing various menu entrees.
  • Must either have or obtain current ServSafe certification.
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of all kitchen equipment preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time as needed.
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse and multi-lingual community.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations in a professional, warm and friendly manner.
  • Bilingual English and Korean preferred.
