Our Exciting Work Environment

Our café is conveniently located within Downtown Los Angeles, offering seasonal and freshly-made grab-and-go items for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast menu items consist of delicious options such as our waffle breakfast sandwich, freshly squeezed juices, and daily selections from our yogurt bar. For lunch, we offer our “chop & toss” fresh produce bar, artisan sandwiches and burgers, homemade soups, and chef’s daily entrée specials. We proudly use eco-friendly, biodegradable materials for packaging, utensils, cups and plates. Sustainable, organic products are incorporated, when seasonal.

This role features a wonderful quality of life with a primarily Monday-Friday work week and day shifts! Patina Restaurant Group is seeking similarly passionate individuals to share in this vocation with us. Responsibilities

 

  • Assist the Executive Chef  and leadership with conducting smooth operation of kitchen functions.

  • Train, supervise and motivate subordinate staff.

  • Order dry and fresh goods and determine whether food meets quality standards and or needs to be rejected; approve invoices of food delivered during the assigned shift.

  • Participate in selection, hiring and promotion of potential cooks, dishwashers and other back of the house positions. Assist with scheduling of the culinary team.

  • Present daily specials to the staff and provide verbal dish descriptions, if applicable and conduct necessary prep cooking for each service.

  • Responsible for kitchen operations in absence of superior chefs (days off, vacation, etc.)

  • Inspect cleanliness and organization of kitchen, prep kitchen, and dishwashing area, to comply with the high standards of the Health Department.

  • Assist in weekly inventory of total kitchen small wares and kitchen equipment. 

  • Inspects all food to insure compliance with federal and state standards, as well as internal quality standards. Must be able to fully manage the food safety program of the organization.

  • Responsible for maintaining labor & food cost at all times 

  • Open & flexible schedule required to meet the needs of the business

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, Chef de Cuisine or Cafe Chef in a restaurant, hotel, cafe or corporate dining outlet.

  • Openness & willingness to learn. 

  • Clean work habits and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to multitask and remain in control in a high volume, fast-paced, demanding environment, while maintaining your sense of humor. 

  • Ability to think quickly on your feet, taking things in stride and executing with poise. 

  • Professional, polished appearance with the ability to interact with all types of team members. 

  • Proven ability to lead a staff and positively influence employee behavior. 

  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills and have the ability to work a flexible schedule. 

  • Certificate or degree in Culinary Arts preferred.  

  • Basic computer knowledge including Word and Excel.
