Hungry Pigeon, the 3 bell and award winning Philadelphia restaurant is looking for a new restaurant manager. Candidate should have an ideal 5 years of experience in the service side of the restaurant industry, including time spent in a management position, and be familiar and comfortable with managing a staff of around 20.

Hungry Pigeon is an all-day cafe, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. It is the concept developed by old friends and owners Chef Scott Schroeder and Pastry Chef Pat O'Malley.

Our menu focuses on responsible and sustainable sourcing from the PA area, and the food is served in a casual and laid back family-style service.

As General Manager, you will oversee and work alongside the Beverage Manager, and our daytime "Captains" who have been with us for some time now.  This position is a full-time salary position (approximately 50 hours a week), and will include (but not limited to) the following responsibilities:

  • Managing all day-to-day operations including maintaining our style of service, daily logs, and paperwork.
  • Handling end of night payouts, managing petty cash accounts, drawer tills, etc...
  • Leading FOH team by example, establishing clear roles and responsibilities for them so that they may provide the best possible experience to our guests, and if necessary taking any disciplinary actions to correct issues.
  • Overseeing all recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling  of FOH employees 
  • Ensuring staff is properly trained on our current food and beverage menus
  • Organizing scheduled maintenance and upkeep of the restaurant to maintain proper standards of cleanliness and organization in the FOH.
  • Preparing payroll in ADP 
  • Ensuring the POS system (REVEL) is up to date and working properly
  • Overseeing our reservations (OpenTable) as well as coordinating private dining, off-site, and special events calendar
Required Skills:
  • A minimum of 3 years experience within a management position at an operation with similar quality standards – 1 year AGM or GM experience preferred
  • At least 1 year in a hands-on hospitality role, bartender or server experience preferred
  • Strong leadership & organizational management skills
  • Strong communication skills; verbal and written
  • Expert knowledge of proper professional service techniques and dining room organization
  • General knowledge of food preparation methods and culinary terminology
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office and POS systems
  • Ability to compute numbers, reconcile daily financial documents
  • Understanding of HR Practices/Policies/Procedures
  • Strong guest service, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and leadership skills
  • Positive leader who sets a good example
  • Ability to train and supervise employees
