Opened in 2013 by chef and owner Ignacio Mattos, Estela offers a charming-but-edgy experience, located just above street level on Houston in SoHo. Described as “bold, bright, layered, playful, and surprising”, Estela’s cuisine toes the line between comfort and experiment, familiarity and exploration.
At estela, our kitchen team prides itself on delivering the best quality food, product and service every day whilst being innovative and continuing to push the boundaries. We push ourselves and each other daily to become better cooks and better people through mentoring, training, constant feedback and guidance.
Our Kitchen Management team consists of former line cooks who have come through the ranks to become the leaders that inspire, coach and drive our line now.

Estela is a restaurant in downtown Manhattan from chef Ignacio Mattos. Set one floor above Houston Street, it is a bistro at heart, taking familiar ideas like tartare, ricotta dumplings, burrata on toast, fried rice, and steak, and presenting them in new, satisfying ways. The bar is open late, and you can come in for just a glass and a small bite, should you feel like it.
