Job Details

One of the area’s top caterers located on the Main Line is seeking a professional, organized and organized team player to assume the full-time position of Sous Chef .

The Sous Chef is responsible for assisting the Executive Chef in preparing and executing menus, ensuring a high level of performance and client satisfaction. The Sous Chef is also responsible for the daily preparation of food items and the kitchen’s day-to-day operation.

  • Assists in managing the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, coordinating food production schedules and ensuring highest level of food quality, taste and presentation
  • Participates in food preparation, produce food consistently high quality, taste and presentation
  • Controls food cost by assisting in training kitchen staff on the proper methods of food preparation and handling, by training kitchen employees on how to handle leftover food items
  • Ensures that all kitchen employees consistently adhere to uniform, grooming and appearance standards
  • In conjunction with the Executive Chef, establishes goals for the kitchen, anticipates and resolves problems concerning all facets of the kitchen, anticipates trends, initiates approved profit-oriented and cost saving ideas/activities
  • Establishes and requires strict adherence to health department sanitation and food handling guidelines
  • In conjunction with the Executive Chef, develops menus and creates and ensures adherence to recipes and product specifications. Trains kitchen staff on all new menus
  • The Sous Chef must maintain effective communication within the kitchen, be responsive to staff suggestions and concerns and work to resolve problems
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments
  • Completes daily food orders based upon scheduled events and projected levels of business
  • Conducts regular inspections of the entire kitchen/dishwashing areas and coolers and promptly acts to correct deficiencies found during inspection
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Intermediate understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • 4-6 years kitchen management/supervisory experience required
  • Professional communication skills are required.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and some holidays
