STARR Restaurants is presently conducting a targeted national search for an industry experienced Vice President of Human Resources to join our rapidly expanding organization.

STARR Restaurants is a privately-owned leader in first class luxury dining experience. Founded in 1995 by Stephen Starr, Philadelphia-based STARR Restaurants is one of the largest multi-concept restaurant groups in the country. With 40 total properties in 6 markets, STARR continues to lead the pack in merging culinary artistry with cutting edge design so much so that Stephen Starr took home the "Outstanding Restaurateur" award from the James Beard Foundation in 2017.

Based out of our Corporate Office in downtown Philadelphia, the Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for providing leadership in developing human resources strategy and participation in tactical execution in support of the overall business plan of the organization, specifically in the areas of compliance, employee relations, payroll, talent acquisition and retention, performance management, succession planning, organizational development, benefits and compensation. 


  •    Establish and implement HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the company's culture.
  •    Maintain company compliance with policies and procedures regarding personnel transactions such as new hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  •    Work with the company's leadership to establish a sound management succession plan that identifies both internal and external talent and supports the goals and objectives of the company.
  •    Ensure effective performance management through regular performance reviews, goal setting and consistent progressive discipline practices; coaches management to consistently deliver.
  •    Effectively responds to and resolves employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, EEOC claims and unemployment.
  •    Evaluate, create, update and maintain policies and procedures for effective management of the people resources of the company.
  •    Ensures the company remains in compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local Law.
  •    Enhance and/or develop, implement and maintain human resources practices and procedures through systems and technology that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company.
  •    Develop and maintain simple/meaningful Human Resources metrics; benchmarking against industry standards.
  •    Partner in the development and implementation of motivating, comprehensive compensation and benefit plans/programs that are competitive and cost effective for the company.
  •    Develop an HR team that is viewed and acts as a true business partner to all disciplines in the company.
  •    Effectively develop and manage an annual Human Resources budget demonstrating ability to measure ROI.
  •    Maintain up-to-date knowledge on HR issues/trends and legislation that have long-term potential impact on the business, and proactively positions management to respond to these issues.

  •    Approachable; develops and maintains effective relationships with all departments and employees.
  •    Strong organizational skills and highly flexible; demonstrates the ability to change directions quickly, re-set priorities and re-focus without losing sight of long and short-term initiatives.
  •    Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze information from multiple sources and use to form a cohesive and comprehensive recommendation or problem solution.
  •    Experience identifying and implementing effective Human Resources technology.
  •    Ability to attract and retain outstanding talent; develop and motivate high performing teams.
  •    Demonstrated background in recruiting, retention, effectively handling employee relations, human resources policies and compliance.
  •    Up-to-date knowledge of human resources practices and issues as well as high awareness of like hospitality companies and industry issues.
  •    Personal characteristics should include: high energy, sense of urgency, resilience, stamina, strong listening skills, high integrity, good judgment and self-motivation.


  •    A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university.
  •    PHR or SPHR preferred.
  •    Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible human resources experience with a restaurant or hospitality organization in a multi-unit environment.
  •    Experience in an entrepreneurial environment preferred.
  •    Prior experience in restaurant operations preferred.
