Job Details

The Bartender prepares and serves all beverages in accordance with proper presentation ensuring excellent guest service. The bartender ensures that all beverages meet White Lodging & brand standards of excellence.

 

Essential Functions::

  • Provide the highest quality of service to the guest at all times and anticipate and exceed guest expectations.
  • Know and live the White Lodging Pledge.
  • Complete set-up, side work and closing duties.
  • Always answer the telephone in three rings with a smile and transfer or answer questions accordingly.
  • Follow sequence of service and utilize proper hotel-specific scripting.
  • Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation and set up. Note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages. Ensure established pars are maintained.
  • Be knowledgeable of all menu items including both food and beverage, their garnish, content and preparation methods. Be prepared to answer any guest question about the menu in a direct and concise way. Know the use records.
  • Stay current on daily specials, new menu items and specifications including proper preparation methods.
  • Demonstrate suggestive and up-selling techniques when interacting with the guest.
  • Be able to operate point-of-sale system and MICROS.
  • Prepare drinks for servers to deliver to guests. Serve drinks directly to guests. Follow beverage standards and procedures, using beverage manual and recipe book as references.
  • Follow all procedures and policies regarding beverage controls as prescribed by standards.
  • Responsible and accountable for issued bank. Count bank at beginning and end of shift reporting all cash over/shorts to management. Comply with hotel and department accounting procedures.
  • Make sure all drinks are rung up properly. Follow proper cash handling procedures including proper ringing of guest checks and cash collection.
  • Start a tab for every guest using a credit card or room number.
  • Deliver and serve order to guest in a prompt manner in accordance with SOP.
  • Complete liquor requisitions and supply lists.
  • Measure all drinks using proper pouring spout as dictated per property. No free pouring!
  • Control waste, loss and usage per SOP. Assist in setting up plans and actions to correct any beverage cost problems.
  • Assist in prep work of garnishes as required for the next shift.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area in accordance with hotel standards. Draft bar lines must be cleaned every two weeks at minimum or in accordance to local health regulations.
  • Ensure sanitation practices are followed. Become certified in sanitation as required by the state.
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of guest and hotel information and materials.
  • Attend work on time as scheduled and adhere to attendance policy.
  • Notify manager/AYS of maintenance issues.
  • Practice energy conservation.
  • Claim all tips in ADP and on weekly tip sheet. Submits weekly tip sheet to manager by end of pay week.
  • Participate in daily preshift.
  • Utilize Service Recovery/Defect Tracking processes.
  • Report all unsafe conditions and suspicious activity to Loss Prevention/Management.
  • Practice safety standards at all times and keep the property safe for guests and fellow associates. Use wet floor signs as required. Use personal protective equipment.
  • Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly. Lift, carry or otherwise move up to 100 lbs occasionally with assistance. Follow proper moving and lifting procedures identified in Departmental Orientation Handbook. Regularly required to stand; walk; reach; use hands to finger, handle or feel; stoop; kneel; crouch; talk and hear; taste and smell.
  • Exercise judgment in serving liquor in order to protect the guest and property. Understand and comply with all state liquor laws. Must hold valid liquor license if required by state. Must pass Serve-Safe Certification.
  • Must complete Service Training Manual and be certified/validated within 30 days of department orientation. Must pass certification quiz/test for position. Must have TIPS Certification.
  • Wear proper uniform, including nametag and pledge card at all times in accordance with the Standards of Appearance.
  • Communicate properly and effectively with the guest, associates and managers. Effectively respond to guest complaints.
  • Promote teamwork and associate morale.
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel property, hotel staff, hotel services, hotel service hours of operation and hotel surroundings (i.e. mall, restaurants).
  • Adhere to all work rules, procedures and policies established by the company. This includes, but is not limited to those contained in the Associate Orientation Handbook and the red Emergency Response Procedures Manual. Have a thorough knowledge of emergency procedures. Complete Chemical Training and Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
  • Adhere to all White Lodging Way Procedures.
