Lula Cafe, the farm-to-table institution and seriously busy Logan Square hub, is hiring a General Manager.  It’s not a cliche to say that there are few job opportunities in the industry like this one.  This is a unique position for truly unique person, someone who believes that great hospitality can be nourishing, purposeful, funny, tender, and real.  And who believes that leadership should be all those things as well.  We are a group of managers and chefs and owners who mentor and guide, who lead by example and courage and not fear.  We believe in serious effort, conscious choices, hard work, and enjoying each other’s company.  Some of our servers have been with us since our first day and some of them are brand new to Chicago.  Our team are all artists of a sort— creative spirits who live in a world of makers/doers/thinkers/feelers.  In our work we bridge the high low, the craft and the art, serving all people with the same spirit and kindness.   It is a true family.  As such, we take true care of each other and our guests.  

The position is challenging and deeply rewarding.  Our General Manager is responsible for the daily operations, yes, and will have a list of duties and responsibilities that are listed below.  But the GM is also the face of a community and as such must embody the restaurant’s spirit and history.  

Additionally our new GM will need to answer the question of how a 20 year old restaurant can stay young, free, creative and yet sustainable.  We strive for healthy work conditions, strong wage growth, and measurable happiness among the staff.  A major task of our new GM will be to understand the changing industry and the vanguard, to know what’s happening now, and be able to keep our OG restaurant as fresh and innovative as the day it was opened.  We want a new voice, a strong and individual voice, who can speak with/for/to the next generation of industry professionals and beyond.
