When Jeff Jatz & James Kent first partnered way back in 2017, they put a couple of ground rules in place.
One: only work with people who we like to spend time with. We often spend as many waking hours in our kitchens and dining rooms than we do with our families. As a result, we aspire to spend that time with people we enjoy being around.
Two: create the infrastructure so that our team members can build careers. For many years, restaurants were a weigh station en route to bigger and better careers. One would work as a line cook or a bartender before landing a gig in Hollywood or Broadway, Wall Street or Madison Avenue. We believe in the honorability of restaurant work, and we’ll endeavor to provide the support–reliable hours, benefits–that allows our teams to build meaningful, long-lasting careers and families.
J2K Creative is not a myopic group of businesses. We build concepts to honor the history of a given neighborhood and meet the needs of our neighbors. Places where we’d want to hang out. Restaurants where grown ups want to go for a fun night on the town.
Restaurants succeed based on one metric: do people come back. We grade our success according to that rubric. If we create businesses where everyone–diners and employees–want to return, then we’re doing something right.
